Free Range Poultry
Poultry is cornerstone to the operation of our farm. While we sometimes confine small batches of birds in "tractors" to concentrate their natural activities to promote soil health, the majority of our birds - layers and broilers - free range under the watchful eyes of our livestock guardian dogs.
By harnessing the natural activities of the chickens - primarily foraging and pooping - the soil is fertilized, appropriately aerated, and harmful parasites and other insects are consumed by the birds.
These birds have choices about shelter, sunshine, forage, dust baths....
